Whether you call it chemsex or PnP (party and play) - or whether you prefer pills, powders or crystals, sex while high can be really attractive for some guys. Party drugs like GHB/G (Gamma Hydroxybutyrate), crystal/ice/shard (crystal methamphetamine), alcohol, molly (MDMA) all work on lowering your inhibitions and for some people, this can have sex feeling more enjoyable, and there are ways we can do this safely.
Before diving into chemsex, take a moment to assess your current vibes and emotions. If you're feeling uneasy or anxious, it might not be the best time to experiment with sex and substances. While taking drugs isn't inherently dangerous, they can lower your inhibitions, and you may unintentionally put yourself at risk. Here are some things to consider before delving into chemsex:
1. Dosage: Before leaving to go on your adventure or prior to dropping anything, take a moment to reflect on the amount of the drug you'd be comfortable taking. The goal is to maintain control over your body and decision-making throughout the experience. By limiting the amount of drugs you take, you can ‘go low and slow’ by taking smaller amounts of your drug of choice. Less can be more in this context. Be aware, overindulging can sometimes lead to excessive risk-taking, which you want to avoid.
2. Designated Sober Friend: It's a good idea to have a sober friend who knows your whereabouts and can offer support if things take an unexpected turn. They can even arrange to pick you up quickly if needed or simply be available for a debrief or nice chat.
3. Medication Reminders: Set an alarm or reminder on your phone to take any necessary medications, such as PrEP. Include a note within the alarm to remind yourself of its purpose.
4. Safety Supplies: Pack condoms, heaps of lube and all sterile injecting equipment (if that’s how you want to take your drugs). Remember, you could be out for a while and your access to these could be limited depending on where you end up. Remember, cum prepared!
